Are you searching for the perfect engagement ring this year? If so, then Hatton Garden Diamond is here to help. In particular, we have compiled a list of the best engagement ring trends of 2024, which will hopefully spark some inspiration for your ideal engagement ring design and style.

What were the Engagement Ring Trends in 2023?

2023 saw many engagement ring styles, and some of them have followed into 2024! Last year, we saw a compendium of magnificent engagement rings, including the likes of:

  • Coloured stones (more on this later!)
  • Large stones
  • East-West (horizontal) settings
  • Lab-grown diamonds (another trend that has made it into 2024)
  • Chunky bands
  • Vintage rings (continues to thrive in 2024!)

Interestingly, many of these trends were already spotted and highlighted in our blog post from last year, where we meticulously outlined the engagement ring trends to watch for 2023. It’s fascinating to see how our predictions and observations have held up and evolved into the new year.

Now that we’ve had a glimpse of the trends in 2023, what’s in store for this year? Let’s find out.

1. Unique Stones

While a diamond is certainly the most popular type of gemstone that you will find on an engagement ring, this doesn’t mean that engagement rings are limited to diamonds only. This year, don’t be surprised to find a variety of different stones as the centre stone of an engagement ring!

Gemstones like emeralds, sapphires, and rubies are making an appearance in engagement rings, introducing a selection of unique and one-of-a-kind pieces that a partner will surely love. No matter if it’s their birthstone or a coloured stone ring that reflects their personality, don’t be afraid to think beyond the box.

2. Vintage

Another engagement ring trend that we will see in 2024 is the vintage-inspired engagement ring. Not necessarily vintage itself, this trend will see engagement rings being made in the style of vintage rings. These rings are often intricate in design and custom-made – if you’re looking for something timeless, then a vintage-style engagement ring captures nostalgia perfectly.

3. Lab-Grown Diamonds

For budget-conscious and eco-conscious consumers, lab-grown diamond engagement rings are the perfect solution. A man-made diamond over a natural diamond offers numerous benefits, including reduced prices. As lab-grown diamonds look the same as natural diamonds, with the difference only really visible to an expert jeweller, why would you not consider lab-grown diamonds?

Available in many different styles and designs, you are bound to find your ideal lab-grown diamond engagement ring in no time.

4. Two-Stone/Multi-Stone Rings

Multi-stone engagement rings have been rising in popularity for a while, and this trend continues into 2024. From two-stone engagement rings to trilogy engagement rings, 2024 is the year for multi-stone rings. The latter are often categorised with a larger centre stone, flanked by two smaller stones on the sides. Meanwhile, the former (highly popularised by Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly in 2022), features two separate stones.

Different variations of these rings will definitely be arriving this year, so you can expect to also find two-stone rings with a gap in between, and multi-stone rings with different types of gemstones.

5. Minimalist

Perhaps one of the highly anticipated trends of the year is the minimalist engagement ring. Popular with couples who prefer something modern and sleek, minimalist engagement rings feature a centre stone with a simple band. The age of extravagant and maximalist rings is fading – now is the time for minimalist and simplistic engagement rings!

6. Custom Design Rings

If you’re looking for something bespoke and uniquely yours, you can’t go wrong with a custom ring that has been specifically designed for you or your partner. This allows you to pick every last detail according to your own style and preferences, from the gemstone to the setting. Customised engagement rings provide you with the opportunity to add a personal touch to your engagement ring, so it’s no wonder that they are one of the top engagement ring trends of the year.

7. Art Deco

The Art Deco era is making a comeback in the engagement ring industry – a mix between retro and contemporary styles that showcases geometric shapes, older diamond cuts, and a vintage feel. 18th century and 19th century designs are also making an appearance, offering couples redefined engagement rings that reflect a timeless beauty and style.

8. Asymmetry

A less conventional engagement ring trend that will surely be making rounds this year is the asymmetrical engagement ring. Mixing cuts, colours, sizing, and layout, asymmetrical rings are unique, unusual, and will definitely pique anyone’s interest. Asymmetrical engagement rings are an excellent choice for a splash of individuality on your engagement ring.

9. More Colour

Traditional engagement rings typically feature a white diamond and a standard silver band, the epitome of elegance and sophistication. However, a new trend has been rising in popularity in recent years, and that is colourful engagement rings! Adding a pop of colour to your engagement ring is a great way to emphasise that it’s yours, and yours alone. Whether that’s through utilising a gold (or even black!) band, or a vibrant gemstone, adding more colour to your engagement ring is a trend to consider.

10. Elongated Oval Rings

We are seeing larger stones on engagement rings, and this includes the elongated oval. Elongated ovals, as their name suggests, are slightly bigger than your typical oval diamond, and are perfect for those who are looking to stun and impress others. It can be set on its own, surrounded by smaller diamonds in a halo setting, or in another setting of your preference.
